Everything You Need To Know About Bridal Alterations

You found the wedding dress of your dreams. Congratulations, we are so happy for you! It is time to make it fit like a glove and, in some cases, upgrade it to fit your personality and wedding day needs. Enter the world of alterations!

Bridal alterations are the frosting on the cake when it comes to finding your perfect bridal look. A person in a white dress

Why are Bridal Alterations Important?

Most brides-to-be are unaware that 90% of wedding dresses need alterations before they are ready to be worn on the big day. Typically, almost every bridal gown needs to be altered to ensure proper fit, even if it’s only a little. You can splurge on a pricey dress, but it won’t look any better than a gown that’s a tenth of the cost if not appropriately altered.

We highly recommend having a trained bridal seamstress alter your dress to fit correctly and sculpt the gown to your body. A well-fitted gown should support and shape the bust, accentuate and complement the body’s shape, and be long enough to cover the shoes but not too long that the skirt becomes a tripping hazard. At The Bridal Gallery, we have University-trained seamstresses who, combined, have more than one hundred years of experience in bridal alterations and are ready to make your wedding dress dreams come true.

Adding Details / Custom Alterations

More extensive changes can be made to your dress with enough budgeting and time. Customizations include adding details like sleeves, train length, lace appliqués, off-the-shoulder straps, beading, buttons, and a bustle (to keep the train from dragging behind the bride while she dances at her reception).

Our talented, in-house tailors offer custom alterations to personalize your dress. Do you want to add sleeves? No problem. Is the neckline too revealing for your taste? We can fix it. The key to making this process stress free is trusting the process and letting our expert turn that beautiful wedding dress you bought into the PERFECT wedding gown for you.

The Process

You ideally want to start alterations between three to four months before the wedding date. However, we know that this is not always possible. If you find your dreams just a couple of months before the big day, fear not. Our alterations team will prioritize the work to meet your wedding date.

We also offer alterations for your mother of the bride and bridesmaids because we believe every lady in your wedding party deserves to look their best on your wedding day.

To ensure prime alteration services we ask our brides to bring only one guest at their alterations appointment. And for safety reasons, we do not allow children (who can get hurt), drinks or food. We want your precious gown to remain clean and white!. It is all about the best experience for you at The Bridal Gallery!

NOTE: At the moment we are only offering alterations for dresses purchased at The Bridal Gallery due to the high demand and to ensure prime customer service.

Now that you know how important dress alterations are, make sure to leave room in your budget for them.

Your Perfect Wedding Dress is Waiting for You at The Bridal Gallery Salem. We firmly believe every bride-to-be dreams of walking down the aisle in the perfect dress, and our alterations department is ready to make it happen.
